He was born in Bremen, Germany. After graduating from high school in Bremen, he persuaded medicine in Lübeck/Germany.
Adem Gunes wrote his doctoral dissertation on the topic of "hyperthermia and chemotherapy" in 2001.
At the age of 28 he became a specialist physician for general and family medicine. After several years of independent practice in Hamburg, he decided to continue his previous research in complementary oncology and left Hamburg.
His fundamental research in the field of hyperthermia,[1] their applicability in combination with other cancer drugs found great interest in the research community. In particular, he was able to demonstrate that through synergy effects the dose of chemotherapy could be reduced without decreasing their effectiveness.[2][3]
In June 2008 he published the book "Hyperthermic oncology".[4]
In 2008 he was appointed as the Chief Physician of ProLife Clinic in Innsbruck/Austria and played a key-role in the establishment of the research laboratory. He is also cofounder of the first Austrian hyperthermia center.
Systematic investigation of the applicability of natural substances in oncology was the prime focus of his research. Over the years, he established the world's largest database of natural substances in the field of cancer medicine.
He is the inventor of certain Complimentary Cancer Treatments that are now considered as standard treatments in some of the German clinics.
He is the inventor of the so-called multistep therapy and he believes that cancer is a multifactorial event that cannot be treated effectively with chemotherapy and radiotherapy alone. His particular focus is the activation of the immune system, the inhibition of angiogenesis and activation of apoptosis by the combination of natural and artificial substances.
Based on his research he has established a special procedure for analyzing the genetic characteristics of circulating tumor cells in the blood.[5] His research group has found ways to determine the appropriate treatment for cancer through a simple blood test.
Research on hyperthermia techniques has led him to establish a new treatment Intensive Hyperthermia (IHT), which contributes to improving the cancer treatment.
Because of his scientific work Adem Gunes received a professorship in medicine.
He has the largest database on the herbal substances that can be used in cancer medicine. Nearly 100,000 herbs are considered for this scientific research and the results are compiled based on the properties of each herb. The classified listing enables to find out the appropriate herb for each type of cancer.
He has specialisation in various other fields of medicine including:
Nutritional medicine
Vaccine medicine
Emergency medicine
Transfusion medicine
